This appears to be a film still from the French movie, "Mayerling" with Charles Boyer (his back towards us) as Crown Prince Rudolf von Hapsburg, and Ms Darrieaux as his mistress, Countess Maria Vetsera.  The film, and it's remake in 1966 with Omar Shariff, Ava Gardner, and James Mason, is about the events leading to the apparent joint suicides (or more technically murder-suicide) of Rudolf and Maria at the royal hunting lodge at Mayerling outside of Vienna on January 30, 1889.  Supposedly (we really are still in the dark, even now) Rudolf, married unhappily to Princess Stephanie of Belgium (they had a daughter, but no son), wanted permission to marry Maria, but as the heir to Europe's most powerful (and oldest) Catholic Royal House, he could not get a divorce and remarry.  Hence the supposed suicide pact.  I keep saying supposed because over the years it has been suggested Rudolf and Maria may have been murdered by order of German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, because Rudolf showed signs of being too liberal and anti-Prussian (Austria-Hungary's biggest ally in Europe was Bismarck's German/Prussian empire.  On the other hand recently someone suggested if it was a double murder it was done by the French because Rudolf was cracking up and might reveal how the French were willing to support him in some treasonable action (possibly seizing the throne of Hungary away from his father Emperor Franz Josef).  So, as I said, we are still in the dark about all this.
